Material Handler 

Job Summary  

American NTN Bearing Manufacturing Corporation is looking for a Material Handler in Elgin, IL. In this position, you will be loading, unloading, moving, and delivering components and supplies to and from trucks, designated areas, or manufacturing lines either manually or with powered equipment.

Responsibilities 

  • Safely lifts, moves, unloads, and stacks material and supplies with electric or liquefied- gas powered industrial equipment such as a walkie, ball cart, reach truck, stacker, stand-up, or sit-down truck (fork-lift). 

  • Visually checks all in-coming material, out-going finished product, and their packaging (including skids) for damage. All suspected damage must be reported in writing.  

  • Weigh’s materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules. 

  • Properly secure loads with seat belts or straps before moving with powered industrial trucks.  

  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs. 

  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information. 

  • Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transports load to designated areas. 

  • Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported. 

  • Inventories materials on work floor, and supply workers with materials as needed. 

  • Based on the production schedule and need on the production floor, the Material Handler will deliver components and other supplies to the appropriate place in a safe and timely manner.  

  • Verifies material in warehouse is OK or approved to use before pulling it from skids.  

  • Records inventory transactions using the Bar Code Inventory system. 

  • Performs routine inspection and refueling on powered industrial trucks such as charging batteries or replacing liquefied-gas tank. 

  • Apply principles of 5S to assigned areas so everything is organized, clean, and safe.  

  • Follow all company rules and regulations related to environmental, health, and safety.

  • Operate manual pallet jack 

  • Operate Wrapping machinery: Banding and shrink-wrapping machines 

  • Drive Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) — Lift truck, Reach truck, Stacker, Stand-up, powered pallet jack (Walkie), and Ball cart 

  • Learn Electronic mail software: Lotus Notes 

  • Use Inventory tracking software (JDE or Syteline) 

  • Use hand-held bar code scanner  

Skills and Abilities  

  • Skilled at driving powered industrial trucks by moving levers and pressing pedals. 

  • Physically move objects safely by using proper lifting techniques.  

  • Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.  

  • Apply common sense to carrying out detailed but uninvolved instructions. 

  • Capacity to get work done in a timely fashion with little or no supervision 

  • Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern.  

  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time. 

  • Detailed and thorough in completing work tasks. 

  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and take the initiative to act quickly and appropriately.  

  • Able to consistently meet job attendance requirements. 

Education and/or Experience  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • A minimum of 1 year driving a forklift truck is desired.

  • Certification in operating a forklift is preferred.

Physical Requirements  

  • Regularly stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear 

  • Able to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing 

  • Use hands and arms in handling, positioning, and moving materials and things 

  • Capacity to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects 

  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 

  • Able to see details at a distance or at close range (a few feet) 

  • Ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away, and judge the distance between you and an object
